It all started when…

Hardships can be catalysts. After my family’s land and country retreat in Calistoga burned in the 2017 Tubbs Fire I retired from 30 years of teaching elementary school and coordinating environmental education and garden projects. Planning to rebuild, I began to spend more time on the 100 acres clearing and observing nature’s healing process. When laurel trees push up dozens of sprouting branches encircling burned trunks they need pruning out, leaving just one to be the phoenix rising from the ashes. Being frugal by nature, it pained me to cut and leave the fragrant greenery knowing its many uses.

At the 2018 Heirloom Expo-World’s Pure Food Fair I was especially inspired by flower farmers Kate Rowe of Aztec Dahlias and Hedda Brorstrom of Full Bloom Flower Farm. Christina Zegrean of Point West Wholesale Flower Market also generously shared wisdom and feedback as I began the journey of collecting and marketing Hundred Acre Greenery. On walks along Washington Creek at my Petaluma home, I found riparian and field foliage and started creating dried fall arrangements. I learned that beauty and diversity of our local plant life provides sustainable harvests for the vast needs of our floristry market right here. I am compelled to improve the floral industry’s impact on the environment, please join me!
